Ray Kass

As part of a trio of exhibitions, with the Moss Art Center and Perspective Gallery of the work of Ray Kass, the Armory Show presents key transitional works spanning five decades. There are no simple images in the vast archives of work created by this prolific artist. There are however keys, principle constituents that contribute to the more complex, more deeply mined veins of brilliant ore. It is these primitives, the first stages of what become series, that are the focus of the exhibition. Technique, materials, mediums, color: components of a whole oeuvre appear, develop, mature and are incorporated into a sophisticated whole. His observational acuity, combine with the joy of the creation of visceral, tactile, earth-riven images.
